Incontinence: The Facts
Physiology.
To learn more about urinary incontinence, it is
important to understand how the bladder works
normally.
In men, the urinary sphincter muscle is located
below the prostate. The sphincter muscle
surrounds the urethra. When the sphincter
muscle tightens, it holds urine in the bladder.
When it relaxes, the bladder contracts and the
urethra opens, allowing urine to flow outside
the body.

To determine the type and cause of incontinence,
doctors take a complete medical history and
conduct a thorough physical examination.
Specialists such as urologists use a variety of
testing methods to etermine the cause and type
of urinary incontinence.

It (incontinence) destroyed my quality
of life. I could not visit, travel, or go to dinners that I had normally gone to and
feel comfortable wearing pads that were
always getting wet. |
